The rain has consumed a background
noise I'd come to know as outside.
Dewy courtyard holds
breath, intent on
faint brushings of sneakers through wet grass,
louder moaning buzz of that new dying street lamp,
and the distant cry of aluminum songbirds.
With the cold metal rape
of the lock I step outside
this waiting game into
the more familiar
breathing...
of
...inside
