I've been informed by mother culture from the beginning that this country was founded on and driven by freedom. Lately, I've come to understand that though this may have at some times been true, it is sometimes less than honest. I now believe that, though this country sometimes raises the flag of freedom to hide behind atrocities and imperialism, this country has been and will be ruled by fear. For proof look to these issues: Jim crow, segregation, discrimination, white flight, gated communities, gun laws, conservative reaction to same sex marriages, the patriot act, government subsidy of faltering industries, the differences in content of domestic versus foreign news sources, and of course all of the rhetoric spewing from the office of the nepotistic appointed leader of the supposedly free world.
I say Fuck it! I'm moving to Canada. Those Canucks don't seem to be as obsessed with the exploitation of fear.

Ishmael really does that to you, doesn't it? I make myself read it again once a year, and spend a few weeks digging myself into politics, Michael Moore, Raw Foodism, Tirbal Spirtuality, and watching Pi over and over again before I just throw my arms up and say f' it and wait until next year.
Sigh.
The election doesn't help either, and this was probably the wrong time to be munching on blueberries during a juice fast, reading Ishmael with my cat in my lap, listening to Stupid White Men book on tape while the republican convention was on TV on mute.
